Athena Services International is hiring for the position of Human Resource Manager for our corporate office in Bethesda, MD. 

 

Any interested candidates must be individuals of unquestionable integrity who display a mature attitude and exercise good judgment.  The Human Resource Manager is responsible for a variety of Human Resource functions within the corporate office including onboarding new employees, setting up company policies and maintaining updated employee records. To be successful in this role, you should have a good understanding of full cycle recruiting and solid knowledge of labor legislation and working with union employees as well as for overseeing and/or facilitating various special projects independently. The Human Resource Manager serves as a principal liaison between the various contract sites and the President of Athena for all Human Resource related issues.

 

Ultimately, you will foster a healthy workplace by ensuring our HR procedures run smoothly and consistently at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Provide support to employees in various HR related topics such as leaves, compensation etc. and resolve issues and problems

  • Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace

  • Administer health and life insurance programs

  • Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status

  • Assist in development and implementation of human resource policies

  • Process employees’ queries and respond in a timely manner

  • Develop and implement HR policies throughout the organization

  • Stay up-to-date and comply with changes in labor legislation

  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form

  • Manage enrollment and payroll deductions for employee medical and 401k benefits

  • New-hire onboarding process including adding employees into Valiant

  • Various administrative duties such as filing, faxing documents, and typing correspondence

 

EQUIPMENT/ COMPUTER SKILLS: Knowledge of general office equipment; Microsoft Office, payroll, and accounting software proficiency; excellent understanding of Microsoft Excel and formula functions. Valiant experience is a plus.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR related majors preferred

  • Eagerness to learn and grow professionally

  • Ability to perform duties autonomously with little direct supervision

  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resource preferred; Proven work experience as an HR Specialist or HR Generalist

  • Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems

  • Good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures

  • Solid understanding of employment/labor legislation

  • Knowledge of government contracting and Service Contract Act a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with staff and the public

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Must have courteous telephone manner

  • Understand and follow standard operating procedures, to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance
